GDRFA Dubai in collaboration with the RTA launches 5-minute international driving permit service at DXB

As part of its vision to deliver proactive government services that respond to customer needs and enhance quality of life, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club, and “Amer,” announced the launch of an instant International Driving Permit (IDP) issuance service Customer Happiness Centre at Dubai International Airport -Terminal 3 Arrivals. The service is available to citizens and residents holding a valid UAE driving license.

The launch of this service comes as part of an integrated framework aimed at simplifying procedures and accelerating transaction completion at key locations, keeping pace with the fast-moving nature of travel and providing practical solutions that accommodate travelers’ mobility patterns and needs during the pre-travel phase, with the service enabling the issuance of an International Driving Permit in no more than five minutes.

The service relies on the integration of digital systems among partner entities. Customers are only required to present their Emirates ID, a valid UAE driving license, a copy of their passport, and a personal photograph. The system then automatically verifies the data and approves the request instantly, ensuring accuracy and speed in a fully integrated, 24/7 operational environment.

In this context, Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director-General for Entry Permits and Residency, affirmed that this step reflects Dubai’s approach to advancing government services, stating:

“At GDRFA Dubai, we are keen to ensure that the customer journey is an integral part of the smart travel ecosystem, through proactive services delivered at the right place and time. The launch of the International Driving Permit service at Dubai International Airport embodies effective government integration and reflects Dubai’s readiness to provide flexible solutions that make travel easier and strengthen confidence in the overall services system.”

He added that such initiatives further reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading global city in quality of life and service efficiency, while underscoring the commitment of relevant entities to developing seamless travel experiences that meet the expectations of both the community and visitors.

For his part, Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, explained that the service represents an advanced model of cooperation among strategic partners. It contributes to enhancing customer experience by offering instant services at one of the emirate’s most vital locations, with availability around the clock (24/7).

The launch of this service at Dubai International Airport reflects the advanced standing that the United Arab Emirates has established as a global leader in developing integrated, digital government services and in promoting a human-centric approach that enhances quality of life. At the same time, it underscores the leadership of the Emirate of Dubai in translating these national visions into practical, proactive solutions delivered at the most critical locations, supporting seamless travel and strengthening trust in the integrated government services ecosystem.
