Dubai Police has implemented specialised strategies designed to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents across the emirate. These include the joint road safety strategy with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), along with two dedicated strategies focused on cutting accidents and building a safer traffic environment for all.
These plans were reviewed during a visit by Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, to the General Department of Traffic as part of the annual inspection programme. He was accompanied by Major General Hareb Muhammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Sector, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs, and senior officers from the department.
Strong Progress and New Achievements
During the visit, the Traffic Department presented its latest achievements. These include joining the International organisation for the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction known as ACTAR, earning international accreditation from IDEALEST, and certifying four ACTAR experts among Dubai Police personnel. The department has also developed innovative projects such as the smart operations room and registered twenty intellectual works related to safe driving and road safety.
New Projects And Future Plans
Dubai Police also highlighted several major projects under development. These include a unified smart system to manage traffic violations, the Wasl project that links traffic systems with local partners, a new digital platform for fines, and a driver behaviour monitoring system. Another project, called Area 56, offers a complete digital environment to support traffic operations.
Keeping The Roads Safe
Dubai Police continues to increase patrols and awareness efforts across the city to help reduce accidents. With Dubai’s population reaching around 8.55 million people in 2024, daily traffic remains one of the biggest challenges.
Last year, 157 people lost their lives in traffic accidents. The main causes included sudden swerving, not leaving a safe distance, negligence, stopping in the middle of the road, and running red lights.
Raising Awareness Through Digital Outreach
The Traffic Department ran awareness campaigns that reached more than twenty million people through digital and field channels. Social media content alone recorded more than one point eight billion views in 2024, showing the strong impact of digital messaging in promoting safer driving habits.
GCC Smart Link
Dubai Police has also activated electronic integration with traffic systems in Gulf Cooperation Council countries. This has made it easier to exchange information and process traffic violations between the UAE and neighbouring states.
Focus On Delivery Riders
Targeted campaigns for delivery motorcycle riders were also launched in cooperation with government and private partners. These efforts led to a 19.4 per cent increase in recorded violations in 2024, reaching 27,353 offences.
Preparing For The Future
The department addressed challenges linked to the growing number of vehicles, Dubai’s expanding population, and the future introduction of self-driving cars. It also confirmed its readiness to adopt smarter and more proactive solutions that support Dubai Police’s vision for 2033, which aims for zero fatalities on the roads.
Lieutenant General Al Marri praised the achievements of the Traffic Department, noting that Dubai Police remains committed to improving road safety through smart planning, strong partnerships, modern technologies, and continuous awareness campaigns. He also commended the dedication of officers and staff, describing them as the foundation of excellence in traffic policing.
He concluded by saying that Dubai Police will continue working as one team to ensure that Dubai remains a global model for traffic safety and innovation, helping protect lives and create safer roads for everyone.
