HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inspected a number of electricity infrastructure projects that DEWA is implementing in Hatta as part of the comprehensive development plan launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop the Hatta area. The plan includes projects that serve the Hatta area and meet the needs of its people.
Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to supporting the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan in Hatta, as well as the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda and the Dubai Social Agenda. He also highlighted measures to consolidate DEWA’s role in innovation and sustainability as key pillars to the future of energy in Dubai. These projects further aim to achieve Dubai's clean energy goals, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050.
During the tour, Al Tayer was accompanied by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA, Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, and other DEWA officials.
Al Tayer reviewed progress on a 132kV substation, with a conversion capacity of 120 megavolt-amperes (MVA), and the 132kV transmission overhead cable line project in Hatta. The AED 294.78 million project significantly enhances power transmission capabilities in Hatta. It includes 82.9 kilometres of overhead lines, 328 towers and 18km of ground cables to connect substations to the main transmission network. The project plays a key role in integrating renewable energy sources, especially the 250MW hydroelectric power plant that DEWA is building in Hatta.
Al Tayer also inspected another 132kV transmission substation in Hatta, with a conversion capacity of 120 MVA. The station contributes to the development of the energy network to meet the growing needs of Emirati communities in Hatta. It is scheduled to be operational in March 2026, with the total cost of the station at AED 116 million.
Al Tayer affirmed that these projects are part of DEWA's ongoing efforts to use advanced technologies to keep pace with the continued increase in electricity demand across Dubai and prioritise sustainability. DEWA continues to lead efforts to achieve Dubai's clean energy goals and promote regional and global co-operation for a sustainable future.
