Dubai Municipality has launched intensified monitoring campaigns and field inspections to ensure public health and food safety during Ramadan, implementing proactive measures to uphold the highest safety standards across food establishments and event venues in the emirate.
The inspections cover markets, malls, food establishments, food warehouses, restaurants, bakeries, hypermarkets, hotels, salons, beauty centres, cafes, gaming areas, and labour accommodations, ensuring compliance with approved health and food safety regulations. In addition, the Municipality has strengthened food safety controls at ports of entry, facilitating the release of food shipments while conducting sampling of high-consumption Ramadan products to verify safety and quality.
Dubai Municipality has also issued permits to over 100 licensed establishments hosting Ramadan tents and outdoor events, ensuring adherence to public health and safety guidelines. Alongside inspections, awareness campaigns and educational workshops have been conducted, focusing on proper food storage and preparation methods, food waste reduction, meat quality standards, and occupational safety measures.
Commitment to public health and food safety
Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasised the Municipality’s commitment to ensuring public health and food safety throughout Ramadan: "Dubai Municipality continues its monitoring efforts across key sectors during Ramadan, ensuring the highest levels of food safety and public health. These measures guarantee that all residents have access to safe, high-quality food while proactively safeguarding the community from potential health risks. Additionally, we are enhancing occupational safety and promoting an advanced quality of life for all."
Enhanced health and safety measures
The Municipality’s preparations to strengthen health and safety levels include monitoring environmental health, occupational safety, product safety, and residential housing standards. Special attention is also given to the safety of imported consumer products, including tobacco, smoking products, perfumes, and incense sold in malls, ensuring they meet Dubai’s regulatory standards.
Public health services
Dubai Municipality has increased its operational readiness across service sites, allocating teams to areas with expected high visitor numbers, particularly livestock markets, and veterinary quarantines. To prevent pest-related health risks, the Municipality has intensified control operations at Ramadan tent locations and livestock markets and has launched awareness campaigns educating the public on preventive measures to limit pest spread and multiplication.
The Municipality encourages residents to use its smart services, such as the Dubai Abattoirs application, to facilitate safe and efficient service access.
Dubai Municipality’s 24-hour call centre (800900) remains available for public inquiries and reports related to food safety, public health, and safety regulations throughout Ramadan.
