Dubai Supreme Council of Energy reviews efforts to support the upcoming COP28

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), chaired the 78th meeting of the Council, which was held virtually in the presence of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE.

The meeting was also attended by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and board members HE Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality; HE Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum; and Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).

The meeting discussed several topics, including the activities the World Green Economy Organisation is organising to support the UAE hosting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at Expo City Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023. The meeting reviewed updates on the first phase of the Waste to Energy Centre in Warsan, the world’s largest and most efficient waste-to-energy plant. The facility, whose first phase became operational last July, features the latest technologies that reduce effects on the environment.

“In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance sustainable development, the meeting reviewed the initiatives and strategies that contribute to achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. We also discussed supporting the goals of COP28 and the Year of Sustainability in the UAE by developing alternative sources to generate clean and renewable energy. We support the sustainable green economy and the UAE’s efforts to reach net zero by 2050,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE.

“The Council discussed the governance model and regulating the services of companies that distribute fuel to customers, trading in petroleum derivatives, and encouraging distributors to adhere to the conditions approved by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. These aim to enhance transportation operations according to safety conditions,” said HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the DSCE.
