Former Global Football Stars to participate in the Legends Football League Next Nov

The Emirate of Dubai will host next Nov. the Legends Football League, which is held in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and with participation of prominent group of best former football stars in the world; top of whom are: the Portuguese Luis Figo, Brazilian Ronaldinho & Dutch Robin van Persie besides several other stars.

The Championship also witnesses the return of the legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson to coach one of the participating teams, besides Sir Kenny Dalglish too.  

The Legends Football League’s details were declared in a press conference, convened today morning at the Danube Sports Complex, and it was addressed by the former Manchester United star Wes Brown / former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, who is currently residing in Dubai / Mr. Ali Omar, Director of Sports Events Dept. in DSC / the Championship’s Organizers; Mr. Mohammed & Mr. Adel Sajan.  
 
The press conference unveiled that 6 teams will participate in this competitive League. Each team is composed of 11 players during the match.

The opening match and the semi-final & final matches will take place at Al-Nasr Club. Each team will be joined by one of the Emirati football legends.  

Participating teams will hold world clubs’ names; these are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

Mr. Ali Omar stated: “Dubai always welcomes the new initiatives and the top sports stars. The participation of the football legends brings more eagerness to this League which is considered as a distinctive addition to the Dubai’s rich sports events agenda, exceeding 450 events every year. Several world stars will participate in the event. DSC is keen to host prominent world stars and to utilize all sports facilities in Dubai”.

He added: “We thank the Danube Co.  and sports clubs which have collaborated for the organization of this Championship. DSC is keen to provide all factors to make this event a success. The Council also endeavors to support all competitions in the various sports games, particularly the global championships, which have acquired special consideration in the sports events agenda during the last month; top of which are: the Global Chess League, World Padel League and Wheelchair Basketball World Championship”.

John Obi Mikel unveiled that he has decided to reside in Dubai, where he enjoys the exercise of various kinds of sports, as he plays padel, tennis & football. He referred that the Legends Football League is a unique opportunity to participate in an event within competitive atmospheres vs. prominent stars such as Wes Brown. We wish the best for all participants to present distinctive performance during the competitions to enable football fans in Dubai & all over the world enjoy watching wonderful matches.  

Wes Brown confirmed that all legends are desirous to participate in this League. He also affirmed that the return to the stadiums to play again makes them enthusiastic and brings their memories back to the nice times of victories. He mentioned that he had participated in several training camps with Manchester United in Dubai, but it will be the first time to contest competitive matches in the Emirate.
