Latifa bint Mohammed presents Women’s Trophy at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and member of the Dubai Council, attended the official closing ceremony of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships where she presented the women’s singles trophy to Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who won the title beating Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in straight sets.

 

The Championships are being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

 

One of the most eagerly anticipated events on the UAE sporting calendar and one of the most popular stops for the ATP World Tour and the WTA Tour, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, began on 14 February. The tournament, which attracted the participation of some of the world’s highest-ranked players, will conclude on 26 February with the men’s finals.

 

This year’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships reinforces the city’s status as a major global sporting hub and a prominent destination for global stars in various sporting disciplines. With some of the world’s best stadiums for various sports including horse racing, golf, cricket rugby and football, apart from tennis, Dubai has an exceptionally successful record of hosting multi-stage global tournaments

 

The official Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships closing ceremony was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, President UAE Tennis Federation; and Nasser Yousef, General Secretary, UAE Tennis Federation. In addition, distinguished guests from the tournament organising committee attending the event included Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO; Salah Tahlak, Tournament Director; and Ramesh Cidambi, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Duty Free.

 

The tournament saw eight of the world’s top 10 players competing for the famous Dhow trophy at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
