- His Highness: Dubai provides one of the world’s best ecosystems for technology companies to accelerate growth, innovation, R&D and excellence
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, today met with Arvind Krishna, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of global technology giant IBM, on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2022.
In his discussions with the IBM CEO, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed said Dubai is keen to further solidify partnerships with global technology companies to advance its vision to leverage the latest advancements and cutting-edge innovation to shape a new future for various sectors and spheres of life.
Based on Dubai’s strong belief in forging robust public-private partnerships, the emirate continues to provide one of the world’s best ecosystems for technology companies to not only expand their business but also accelerate innovation, research and development and operational excellence, His Highness further said. Over the last two last decades, Dubai has emerged as a global destination for established technology companies as well as promising new ventures that have gone on to become market leaders, he noted.
The IBM CEO said Dubai continues to be one of the major hubs for the company’s global operations and a key platform to expand its business in some of the world’s fastest growing emerging markets. The world-class infrastructure, supportive environment and access to skilled technology talent provided by Dubai makes it a productive base for IBM’s operations in the wider region.
The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Teleworking Applications; His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; and His Excellency Malek Sultan Al Malek, Director General of the Dubai Development Authority and CEO of TECOM Group.
A long-established player in the UAE’s technology market, IBM relocated the regional headquarters for its business in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa to Dubai in 2009. IBM achieved global annual revenues of $57.35 billion in 2021.
