Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received the Globally Accepted Standard on Governance Systems 2021 (BSi13500:2013) for the fifth consecutive year in addition to observations from the British Standards (BSI) assessors related to ‘best practice’.
DEWA also received a shield for getting full marks (100%) for the compliance certificate. This new achievement underlines DEWA’s leadership and excellence in governance management and its position as one of the world’s leading organisations in good governance. The certification recognises DEWA’s adoption of best international practices and standards in good governance; compliance with the effective governance standards; and continuous efforts to promote a culture of self-governance across all divisions.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, received the certificate and shield in the presence of Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA; Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation, and Ali Almuwaijei, Vice President of Governance and Compliance at DEWA.
“Receiving this certificate is a result of DEWA’s commitment to achieving the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who emphasises the importance of applying the highest standards of good governance in government work. It also reflects DEWA’s commitment to keeping pace with the Eight Principles of Governance in Dubai and anticipating the future.
DEWA adopts a comprehensive plan for governance and compliance that considers adaptation for change, that could affect the water and energy sectors locally and globally. The plan benefits from opportunities in this adaptation, to enhance DEWA’s leading global position in best practices and creating new opportunities. This supports the growth of Dubai, bringing agility in decision making and enabling sustainable development.” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA’s Good Governance model has become a reference for entities around the world in terms of keeping pace with rapid global changes, achieving the best global results and achievements, supporting sustainability and resilience in business agility. DEWA adopts World Bank guidelines and best practices for electricity and water providers worldwide.
These include a comprehensive good Governance Framework, with a classified registration certificate, Governance Policy and Governance Charter. This approach helped the UAE, represented by DEWA, maintain its first global ranking for the third consecutive year in Getting Electricity as per the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2020,” said Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA.
“Governance is the system by which the whole organisation is directed and controlled to achieve its core purpose over the long term. DEWA’s achievement of successfully obtaining the BSi 13500:2013 Certificate of verification for the fifth consecutive year demonstrates its commitment to proactive management style to fulfil its organisational purpose and continuously develop overall. On behalf of BSI, I would like to extend my congratulations to the whole DEWA team on this tremendous achievement,” said Theuns Kotzé, Managing Director, BSI IMETA Assurance.
