Expo 2020 Dubai takes centrestage as UAE Tour comes to Dubai for penultimate stage on Friday

Expo 2020 Dubai will take centrestage on Friday as the Middle East’s only UCI WorldTour race, the UAE Tour, comes to Dubai for the sixth and penultimate stage, which will start and finish at the Expo.

The 180km Expo 2020 Dubai Stage will see 140 cyclists paddle through the streets of Dubai, past its glitzy landmarks. The stage will be flagged off from Expo 2020 Dubi and will pass through locations like Dubai Sports City, Silicon Oasis Meydan Racecourse, Palm Jumeirah and the Jumeirah Islands, before returning to Expo 2020 Dubai for the finishing sprint. The race will showcase some of Dubai’s biggest landmarks like Ain Dubai and Museum of the Future.

The 30th edition of the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship will also come to a close this weekend, and Novak Djokovic fans will be hoping the five-time Dubai champion will go all the way and lift the magnificent dhow-shaped trophy.

On Sunday, curtains will also come down on the 2022 World Archery Para Championships, which started at Dubai Club for People of Determination on February 19. More than 225 of the world’s top Para Archers, representing 41 different countries, are participating in the World Championships, which are the biggest ever in terms of participation.

The Final Qualification Tournament for Rugby World Cup 2021 is also taking place in Dubai, at The Sevens Stadium, and Colombia, who defeated Kazakhstan 18-10 on February 19 here in Dubai, will now take on Scotland on Friday for the last remaining place at New Zealand 2021, which is scheduled to take place between October 8 and November 12, 2022.

A number o other sports events are taking place this week, including: the Gold Polo Cup (Feb 15-March 5) at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club; Palmatenis Ladies Tennis Tournament (Feb 24-25) at Dubai Ladies Club; Al Nabooda Insurance Brokers Run Challenge (Feb 26) at Palm Jumeirah; People’s Boxing Fighter (Feb 26) at Emirates Golf Club; Dubai Canal Run (Feb 26) in Business Bay; We Kayak for People of Determination (Feb 26) in Mohammed Bin Rashid Crystal Lakes, Meydan; Yalla Yoga for Ladies (Feb 26) at the Dubai Frame; Al Noor Zurich Family Fun Fair (Feb 26-27) at Al Noor Association for People of Determination; MJ Squash Mixed Tournament (Feb 26-27) in Jumeirah Mina Al Salam; Ladies Padel Tournament (Feb 26-27) at Padelae, Al Quoz 2; Apex Swimming Relay Championship (Feb 27) in Hamdan Sports Complex; Giant Duathlon (Feb 27) in Al Qudra; 8th DIBC Open Bowling Tournament (Feb 27-Mar 13) in Dubai International Bowling Centre.
