Dubai Press Club in cooperation with the National Defense College completes the first phase of the “Media Leadership” program

Dubai Press Club (DPC) honored the first-tier of media leaders across various sectors in the country, who have completed the first phase of the “Media Leadership” program. The program, organized in cooperation with the National Defense College aims enhance the strategic competencies of the media professionals and support the role of media in disseminating information to keep abreast with various events that continue to change at a rapid pace across the world.

The participants who completed four months of training expressed their satisfaction over their achievement and with the organization and content of the program which was launched on October 6th 2016 in the presence of Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

They further affirmed that the program, organized in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Defense College (NDC) and the support of the National Media Council (NMC), contributed to developing their leadership skills as well as sharpened their analytical, research, critical thinking and evaluation skills, affirming that the time in which the program has been offered is critical given the fast-paced changes of the events taking place in the Middle East and which require full understanding of their impact.

President of Dubai Press Club (DPC) Her Excellency Mona Ghanim Al Marri expressed her appreciation for all participants and said that the great turnout of participants reflects keenness of media leadership professionals in the country to understand and analyze the global current events and their potential influence in the region.

Al Marri also commended the fruitful cooperation of Abu Dhabi National Defense College (NDC) which contributed to the success of the first phase of the program and affirmed that it will continue to support the local media professionals through discussing salient media issues.

Her Excellency noted that the next phase of the “Media Leadership” program will focus on the second-tier of media professionals to enable them to stay on top of the issues affecting the region and analyze various events critically and efficiently with the aid of specialized academic professionals and experts.

The “Media Leadership” program will also focus on the third-tier of media professionals. This is in line with the DPC’s core strategy which aims to equip the community and the media industry with media cadres capable of dealing rationally with various issues, while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards of media. This is said to be achieved through the exchange of expertise and constructive dialogue during sessions where heads of media organizations and academic professionals are participating.

The first phase of the “Media Leadership” program saw the participation of CEO of Publishing Sector at Dubai Media Incorporated Ahmad Al Hammadi, Editor-in-Chief of Al Ittihad newspaper Mohammed Al Hammadi, CEO, Arab Media Group Mohammed Al Mulla, Executive Director of the Department of Television at Abu Dhabi Media Abdul Hadi Al Sheikh, Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Radio Network Abdul Rahman Al Harthi, Managing Director of Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City and Dubai Production City Majed Al Suwaidi, Executive-Editor-in-Chief of Al Khaleej Newspaper Raed Barqawi, General Manager of Dubai One Channel Sarah Al Jarman, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Al Bayan Riyad Mickdady, Editor-in-Chief of Emirates 24/7 Khadija Al Marzouqi, General Manager, Arabian Radio Network Mahmoud Al Rasheed,  Editor-in-Chief of Emarat Al Youm Newspaper Sami Al Reyami, Managing Editor of Khaleej Times newspaper Mustafa Al Zarooni, Former Editor-in-Chief of The National newspaper Mohammed Al Otaiba, Chairman of Masdar News Faisal Al Tenaiji,  Ahmad Al Alawi from Al Ain News and Hassan Al Marzouqi from Fursan UAE.

Participants from the Government of Dubai Media Office included, Corporate Support Director Abdullah Al Mansouri, Director of Media Services Salem Bel Youha, Director of Communications and Innovation Noora Al Abbar, Director of Strategy and Planning Nehal Badri, Director of the Dubai Press Club Alia Al Theeb, and Senior Manager of Strategic Communications Noora Al Mansouri.

The program’s content was presented by  a group of distinghished academics from the National Defense College (NDC) such as, the Georgian Ambassador Grigol Mgaloblishvili who have a long career in diplomacy serving as the Prime-Minister of Georgia and was a visiting faculty member at the College of International Security Affairs at NDU. He also served as the Permanent Representative of Georgia to NATO, the Ambassador to Turkey and as a non-resident Georgian Ambassador to Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina. In addition to Dr. John Ballard, Dean of the National Defense College in Abu Dhabi. Ballard had previously served as the Professor of Military History and Strategy at the American Joint Forces Staff College. In addition, the program hosted Dr. Howard Gambrill who specializes in the Middle East affairs and has a long experience in counterterrorism/counter-violent-extremism (CVE) issues.
